Bicentennial Bus gets a UITS assist

Who you gonna call when you need interactive displays for the IU Bicentennial? The UITS Advanced Visualization Lab, of course! (Sorry, Ghostbusters.)

When the IU Bicentennial team started putting together the Big Red Bus—a traveling, interactive exhibit exploring IU's impact on the state—they knew they wanted it to be hands-on and fun for visitors.

When the IU Bicentennial team started putting together the< Big Red Bus—a traveling, interactive exhibit exploring IU's impact on the state—they knew they wanted it to be hands-on and fun for visitors.

The UITS Advanced Visualization Lab specializes in photogrammetry and had already created a robust library of IU artifacts large and small, so they were a natural go-to group when the Big Red Bus needed interactive resources. The lab produced 3-D printed replicas, an interactive touchscreen, and virtual reality, all featuring iconic IU artifacts, spaces, and places for the bus exhibit. One notable project was Showalter Fountain, the centerpiece of the Fine Arts Plaza in Bloomington. It’s the source of multiple campus legends and traditions, including one in which new grads take a quick dip under the goddess Venus’s gaze.
