IU celebrates bicentennial with ringing of bells

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WEHT) – Indiana University celebrated its bicentennial on Monday with the ringing of a newly renovated piece of campus history.

The Arthur R. Metz Memorial Carillon was donated and dedicated to the university in 1971.

In 2017, work to renovate the piece of history began by removing the bells inside.

For the first time since the project began, the IU campus got to hear the bells on Monday.

They rang 200 times in honor of the 200 years the university has been open.
