The IU Books & Beyond Project is an intercultural literacy leadership project that connects students at Indiana University Bloomington, local Bloomington schools, and Kabwende Primary School in Kinigi, Rwanda. The project provides bilingual reading materials to Rwandan children and facilitates intercultural communication between children in the US and Rwanda.

The Graduate Student Association of the History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine department will host an exhibition of student research during finals week in Spring 2020. The exhibition will be comprised of posters presenting the results of student projects for the course.

Indiana Canine Assistant Network (ICAN) is an Indianapolis-based nonprofit and the only accredited service dog organization in Indiana. ICAN at IU will host an event on February 20, 2020 open to the Bloomington community and hopes to engage the IU community by offering a fun educational event and to recognize all the important work that ICAN does.

The George Taliaferro Sport Association (GTSA) wishes to honor individuals like George Taliaferro who created space for Black people in intercollegiate and national athletics. To celebrate his and other Black athletes’ tremendous impact, the GTSA proposes a day-long series of events to highlight the Black athlete experience. The event will feature: a Black athlete film screening, an exhibit featuring historical archives and memorabilia within IU sport history and student participants and Dinner and Dialogue, with the IU Ten and members of Taliaferro’s family as special guests.

The Black Graduate Student Association seeks to highlight past graduate students who have made a tremendous impact on the campus during IU’s 200-year history including the late Clarence “Rollo” Turner. Turner was a student activist and major organizer of several protests in the late 1960s at IU, including the 1968 Little 500 sit-in, which was in response to racial discrimination of Black fraternities and other Black student grievances. He also organized the Black Market, a local gathering place for Black students, faculty, administrators, and community members to support Black vendors and build community among each other.

The Kelley Student Government (KSG), in partnership with the Kelley Undergraduate Program office and with leadership from KSG’s Equity and Inclusion Committee, will partner on a new project that researches and features the stories of some of Kelley’s most significant trailblazers–namely, those who had the courage and tenacity to be some of the “firsts” of their demographic to attend the school.
