The George Taliaferro Sport Association | The George Taliaferro Black Athlete Showcase | The George Taliaferro Sport Association (GTSA) wishes to honor individuals like George Taliaferro who created space for Black people in intercollegiate and national athletics. To celebrate his and other Black athletes’ tremendous impact, the GTSA proposes a day-long series of events to highlight the Black athlete experience. The Black Graduate Student Association | The Clarence "Rollo" Turner Award | The Black Graduate Student Association seeks to highlight past graduate students who have made a tremendous impact on the campus during IU’s 200-year history including the late Clarence “Rollo” Turner. Turner was a student activist and major organizer of several protests in the late 1960s at IU, including the 1968 Little 500 sit-in, which was in response to racial discrimination of Black fraternities and other Black student grievances. He also organized the Black Market, a local gathering place for Black students, faculty, administrators, and community members to support Black vendors and build community among each other. | March 29, 2020 (Canceled) |
