The Academy as Contemplative Practice
Date: TBD
Time: TBD
Format: Virtual
Host: Graduate Mentoring Center, IU Bloomington
This program assembles a digital working group to address the question, “How do we create an IU that is not only bold, but also intentional, dynamic, adaptive, interdependent, and transformative?”
As a core text, participants will use Laura Rendón’s Sentipensante (Sensing/Thinking) Pedagogy: Educating for Wholeness, Social Justice, and Liberation.
Participants will explore:
- Their role(s) in the academy (actual, imagined, and desired).
- The connections between those roles, research, teaching, and service (past, present, and future).
- The impact of racism and racialization on how these areas are engaged and connected.
- How these connections assist or hinder them in creating holistic approaches that transform and make accessible teaching, research, and leadership at IU and for the communities we each serve.
