Basic Action

“Basic Action” in Honor of President Myles Brand

Campus: IU Bloomington

Indiana University’s 16th president, Myles Brand, was one of the very first university presidents to recognize the growing importance of information technology and teaching it at the university level.

In honor of Brand’s vision and achievements, IU president Michael McRobbie commissioned sculptor Donald Gummer to create “Basic Action” which is located outside the Cyberinfrastructure Building. The sculpture is 12 feet tall and is made of stainless steel. It resembles several interlocking stalks of metal weaving together and reaching up to the sky.
