Our Story

Campus: IU Kokomo

To commemorate Indiana University’s Bicentennial and IU Kokomo’s 75th anniversary, IU Kokomo commissioned a new mural. Titled Our Story, the mural includes 12 panels, each 6-foot by 4-foot showcasing the themes of Then, Now, and Future.

Associate professor of new media, art, and technology Michael Koerner has been selected to create the mural. Painting will begin in October 2020. IU Kokomo will install the mural by May 2021; it will be located above the bleachers in the Student Activities and Events Center.

This preliminary piece, focused on the theme of “Then,” showcases the artistic design that will be used in the mural. Iconography and references include: the Miami Indians and life on the plains (buffalo, traditional woven reed hut, grassland); passage of time (clusters of differing cloud formations, evolving in black silhouetted iconography); World War II and Bunker Hill Air Force Base (Curtiss P-40 Warhawks); IU Kokomo’s beginnings (Seiberling Mansion and parting clouds to an open crimson sky).
