BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WTHR) — Acclaimed actress Viola Davis will give the keynote address at Indiana University's Day of Commemoration recognizing the school's bicentennial and Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 20, 2020.
Her lecture will be at 4 p.m. in the IU Auditorium. It's free and open to the public, but tickets must be reserved in advance. Tickets will be available at iuauditorium.com Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m.
"Viola Davis is one of our nation's finest and most accomplished actors, who has inspired many individuals through her remarkable life story, rich body and work and rise to the top of her profession," IU President Michael A. McRobbie said.
Davis is one of only two African-American women in history to win an actor's triple crown — Oscar, Emmy and Tony awards.
She won her first Tony award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play in 2001 for her role in "King Hedley II." In 2010, she won another Tony for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for "Fences." She won the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her role in 2016's "Fences." Then in 2015, she won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for "How to Get Away with Murder."
