Description of Funded Activity

Held on February 29, 2020 at IU Southeast, this event brought together over 200 Latinx high school and college students from across the state of Indiana. This event encouraged scholarly and creative inquiry into topics of concern to Latinx communities, and through student-led interactive workshops and presentations, empowered participants to develop strategies for addressing these issues.

Kat Lazo, a director, producer, and host served as the keynote speaker. In addition to topical breakout sessions, participants enjoyed performances from three musical groups; Appalatin, A-Corde, and Mariachi Herencia de Mexico.

Eleven students from IU Southeast and seven students from IU Bloomington comprised the planning committee, enhancing inter-campus interaction and collaboration. Two faculty members from IU Southeast, Dr. Veronica Median and Dr. Jennifer Ortiz served as co-advisors along with Lillian Casillas, the director of Las Casa Latino Culture Center at IU Bloomington.
