Description of Funded Activity

This project documents, explores, and honors the predominantly Black neighborhoods that historically inhabited the land that makes up IUPUI’s current campus in downtown Indianapolis.

In order to meet these goals, archival holdings found in various campus collections are being digitized and project staff will promote this history in various community and campus events.

The Ruth Lilly Collections and Archives is also engaging former residents and descendants of residents in IUPUI’s mission to provide historical continuity between the neighborhood and current campus.
