Description of Funded Activity

In order to document Indiana University’s contributions to the founding and growth of Riley Children’s Health, the Riley Hospital Historic Preservation Committee created four photo history exhibits that are on display in the Ruth Lilly Learning Center lobby in the lower level of Riley Hospital.

The displays rotate to other hospital locations, such as the Herman B Wells Research Center, IU School of Medicine Library, and Riley Children’s Foundation. Display one celebrates James Whitcomb Riley and the enduring partnership since 1921 between the James Whitcomb Riley Memorial Association and the Indiana University Board of Trustees.

Display two focuses on how IU Presidents and Trustees have contributed to Riley Children’s Health.

Display three recognizes the contributions of the William H. Coleman Hospital for Women which operated on the IU Medical Center campus from 1927-1974.

Display four celebrates the leadership of Dr. Edwin Gresham and his innovations for neonatal care.
