Campus: IU Bloomington
In August 2015, the Indiana University Board of Trustees approved the construction of a long-awaited amphitheater on the IU Bloomington campus, built to satisfy the university’s continued commitment to support the arts and humanities. Nestled in the hillside next to the historic Bryan House, the amphitheater is in the heart of campus and includes over 300 pieces of custom-machined and hand-carved local limestone.
The amphitheater is named after alumnus Conrad Prebys, who made a significant donation for this project. The architecture firm Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf designed the space. According to the firm, the amphitheater includes, “A seating capacity of around 275 people, a bluestone paving stage area, accessible paths to the Bryan House patio, preservation of area trees, luscious landscape plantings, and site and landscape lighting. A sunroom was added to Bryan House as well as landscaping and an exterior patio for entertaining and fundraising events.”
Construction of the Conrad Prebys Amphitheater began over the summer of 2016 and was completed that October. President Michael McRobbie dedicated the amphitheater on June 14, 2017.
