Campus: IUPUI
Students attending IUPUI know that there are two major roads that run through campus: New York Street and Michigan Street. Prior to 2015, these roads were one-ways, with New York Street running east through downtown and Michigan Street running west. This posed problems for IUPUI, including heavy traffic running directly through campus and poor traffic circulation for commuting students and people needing access to nearby hospitals.
As a result, in 2015 the city of Indianapolis completed their initiative to convert New York Street and Michigan Street into two-way roads to increase productivity and to slow traffic through campus. They also took the opportunity to improve the roads in other ways, including adding a raised median, improving the sidewalks, and adding an 8-foot off-street bike lane just north of the road.
