Bridging the Visibility Gap
The history of Indiana University is full of compelling stories of influence by women, underrepresented minorities, and other individuals whose impact has not been truly appreciated by contemporary students, faculty, staff, alumni, and campus visitors.
From 2015 to 2020, the Bridging the Visibility Project worked to build two bridges. The first was to diversify the historical narrative through blog posts, books, magazine articles, and revisions to campus tours. The second was to diversify the physical environment through the physical recognition of women and underrepresented minorities though historical markers, portraits and statues, named spaces, and named awards and positions.
